A day in the life of an Ohioan turned New Yorker

Today I recieved an E mail from a school district in Columbia, SC stating that they were in desperate need of an elementary music teacher. At first, I wondered how in the heck they got my name, then I remembered...I applied to teach in the state a few months ago on a whim. This whim may be my ticket to a REAL JOB, teaching exactly what I want--JUST MUSIC (no art, no play classes)!!!! I would no longer be teaching for a FRANCHISE! I would have my own CLASSROOM!! We might be able to live in a HOUSE, as oppose to a 2 by 4 one bedroom apartment. I would be able to get a DOG! The beach and mountains are close enough to drive to!

The only immediate problem is that Hardin still has one school year (now until may) left of class work towards his DMA. He said he'd be happy for me if I got this, but he would have no idea what he would do. We figure he could stay here and we could fly to visit each other every other weekend and for long and extended breaks. Heck, he's on the road so much with the Dorsey Orchestra that this long distance for these few months shouldn't matter.

JU, I hope to gosh that the right answer prevails! I beieve that teaching music is what I'm made to do, however I want it to be the right opportunity for my marriage. Only the higher powers know the lengths my relationship could go. If you guys could put in a good word to whatever higher being you believe in to help me make this decision, that would be rad!

Here is a prayer hoping that whatever decision you make will be the best for you and your husband. I gotta say, it does sound like a wonderful opportunity for you...if you do decide to go for this, I am sure that you and Hardin will figure out a way to make it work for both of you.
Best wishes!

Thanks! I just got off of the phone with Hardin and his exact words were, "Hell yes you should go for it!" hehe. I guess I got my answer. I just sent the HR lady my resume via e mail. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

He is a good husband. And you have a good marital relationship. Sure am glad, cause I do care for your personality. Hope you wont be separated long and neither one of you has to make too many sacrifices. Sounds as if no children were involved, either. Congrats!

I say go for it Alison. If you are already used to being seperated for long periods as it is...You are only a plane ticket away!

Do it, toots. Like you said, he's gone all the time anyway.....and besides, you'll be so much happier teaching there.

Those are very sweet comments! The seperation would only be for a few months, I think we could do it.

I think I would be way happier....no more working for "the man and his company." I just really have a good vibe about this...it's hard to describe....

I know what you mean, and if you're feeling that...well, that job is meant for you, so take it!
