A day in the life of an Ohioan turned New Yorker
dedicated to those bloggers.

As of late, a lot of bloggers have decided to leave JU due to the childish antics of some of it's members. This is sad. Blogging wasn't made for harrassing eachother, it was designed for the enjoyment of writing; the enjoyment of sharing with a community.

According to websters dictionary, a community is defined as "A group of people with similar interests." That similar interest that brings us together is the enjoyment of blogging, but some do not share this common thread. Some use their blogs in an unjust and hateful manner. This is not a common thread throughout JU members. Some of us are here because we enjoy hearing what others have to say, others...well, who can tell?

If this is the direction this so called "community" is headed, than this is not healthy and I think many people will decide to leave. It is sad to see great bloggers like Dharma and manopeace go. They were real assets to the community. The healthy community that used to be JU. If this harrassment goes on, even if it does not effect me directly, I'm out too.

Draginol:
That makes sense...bringing in some outside sources that don't know a thing about JU.

Words on online forums do not hurt unless one allows them to hurt.

I haven't been active here in a while and I guess I've missed a lot of uproar or whatever you care to call it.

Seems to me the easiest thing to do is simply ignore those who can't behave like adults.

What JU needs, IMO, are volunteeer moderators who do NOT have blogs (and never have) here so that they don't become personally involved.

This might be nice if these folks were willing to put in the time necessary to both patrol and read enough here to have a grasp of the situation but it is just as unlikely to work online as it is in real life. After all the best cops are the ones who live in the neighborhoods they police. Personal stake = diligence just as in business. You need incentiv to sift through thousands of forums posts and thousands of blog entries with comments. This incentive is extremely unlikely to exist without the patrollers having a stake in the community or the forum business (aka Stardock employees who don't blog). In fact anyone willing to work as a netcop without being involved in the community here is unlikely to even be mentally stable (power addicts most likely). JMHO.

I just don't see anyone volunteering their time w/o having a blog. But it's a good idea.

I used to mod during my time at AOHell. It sucked.

I ain't givin up my blog to be a hired gun. But except for one person I would just let everyone rum amok anyways. Free speep is what it's all about for me. If someone annoys me I just do not read them anymore, eassy huh? like if the program pisses ya off do not whine and complain about it,, change the frelling channel.

My own extended absence here had nothing to do with anyone's bad behavior. I was just "away" for a while. I wouldn't allow someone else to run me away from my own blog.

If there is someone here I don't like to read, I don't read them. Seems simple to me.

to be a hired gun

It would actually be a "volunteer" gun, which makes it all the more improbable.
