A day in the life of an Ohioan turned New Yorker

This morning I decided to try a spinning class @ my local gym to cross train with my running plans. HOLY CRAP does it kick ass!

For those of you who are not sure what it is, spinning is a high intensity stationary bike aerobics class. As the class goes, the instructor tells you the positions to move to on your bike and to highten or lower the intensity. You go at a pace that you are comfortable with.

IMO, spinning seems like it's going to work well as a cross training activity. I highly recommend it!

Here was my workout for today.

1.5 hours of cardio and weights

.5 weights
-3 reps of hammer curls @ 10 lbs
-3 reps of bicep curls @ 10 lbs
-3 reps of behind the back tricep flex @ 10 lbs

1 hour of cardio
-spinning

My wife used to go to a spinning class regularly, but the person who led it is why she went. That person changed, and so she doesn't go anymore.

Do you find that the spinning class leader makes a big difference for you? Just curious.

Honestly, yes...I've found that in the past if I go to an aerobics class and the instructor isn't excited about it, then the class energy just isn't the same.

My current gym doesn't offer spinning. Actually there are only three gyms in my town and none of them offered spinning. I used to take classes and I really enjoyed it. I love the high intensity and the feeling that you really worked hard when it's over.

So that's what it is! While still in Italy we actually saw adds for gyms with the word "spinning" in the list of activities and wondered what in the world that was. Now I know! Sounds interesting too. Maybe I'll look it up...Personally I prefer water aerobics for the low impact and the fact that I don't feel sweaty.

the fact that I don't feel sweaty.

That's the best thing about swimming for exercise. Plus swimming is a low impact exercise that you can do even if you're 90 years old. You don't see too many elderly people out there pounding the pavement but you do see them swimming laps.

I enjoyed it, a couple of times a year or two ago - a long time, and you're right, it does kick ass! I should pick it up again, you make it sound so enticing!
