A day in the life of an Ohioan turned New Yorker

****WARNING*****This just might be my most superficial post yet....Read at your own risk

My trauma is my hair. I am at a loss what to do with it. My hair has been every length from 2 inches all over to down right above my ass. My hair has been dyed just about every single color imaginable as well. I have had black hair, blonde hair, auburn hair, blue hair, pink hair, purple hair, and multi colored streaked hair. It has also been high lighted, low lighted, curly and straight.

As of right now, my hair is my natural color (dark brown), wavy, and about three inches past my shoulders. I feel like it has no shape and is just growing into a giant equalateral triangle. Some days I just want to hack it off because it's easier to take care of. Other days I want to grow it as long as I can, just because this is the longest I've had my hair in about 8 years. I could use a nice hair cut (maybe with a new shape for it to grow into), since I haven't had one since February, but I don't want the hair dresser to do something scary like whack it into a mullet.

AHHH!! What should I do??

We must be sisters separated by birth...because I've got the same hair.

If it's thick...and it sounds like it is...go have them just trim it a little, maybe put some layers in, and thin it out. Mine gets the thickest like right behind my ears so if I don't have that taken care of I look like Rolf from the Muppets...lol...

amen for big hair...haha...I have so much hair, it's scary. Maybe I'll tell them to just trim it and add some longer layers...that sounds like a good idea.

My sister has hair like yours...thick and wavy. She usually straightens it out, but it takes her quite a long time to finish. When she doesn't straighten, she usually puts some sort of de-frizz treatment on it to tame it...I think her hair is nice either way.

Growing it out a bit sounds nice for a change...and if you don't want to go the straight route, just find some quality products that will help tame the waviness. Good luck.

Before you go get it cut, search the 'net for pictures of what you want so you can give your hairdresser something to go on. It's when you go in saying "well, I sorta want it long, but not really, with some layers, but longer layers, except for at the top, and there I want..." .....you dig?

If you have wavy hair and want it to be more wavy/less frizzy, I highly recommend Charles Worthington's stuff...you can get it at Walgreens. My daughter uses the shampoo, conditioner and leave in cream on her wavy/tendency to be frizzy hair, and it's great. She's gone from having a bushy head to having some really nice silky hair.....I'll have to take a picture of it.

InBloom:
Like your sister, it does take me forever and a day to straighten it. I think I'm going to keep it wavy. Do you happen to know what she uses on her hair?

Dharma:
I'll have to try it...I'll keep the name in mind. You should post a pic of it! I remember you said at one point that she was growing it out...

try straightening it or cutting two inches off. It'll get rid of your spilt ends (if you have any) and help it grow faster.

Got the same problem except mine is any hairdresser's nightmare... So i'm having it trimmed and relaxed at the end of the month.

Good luck with yours

What's up Alison,
I know exactly what you're talking about as far as being bored with your hair, I have recently gone to Dreads, after about two years of having long curly black hair(natural), I miss the days of Zero Hair maintance but am really digging the Dreads and as time goes on they are forming better and better, as well as the fact that they have added deoderant to Beezwax, and if the hair is dread permed you can take showers and use shampoo and conditioner, I am totally thinking you should try dreads

Join the club Alison. I'm having the same dilema right now too! I recently took my braids out and my hair is back to it's natural wavy "big" hair state. It's driving me totally crazy too. So I use a flat iron in the mornings which is time consuming! Makes me want to yell and pull my hair out, ! I think the long layer cut is a great idea. That's what I was thinking of having done to mine too. Of course I've also thought of cutting it really short and going totally curly. Ah well....hope you find a great hair do soon. And it's always good to have pictures of the look you want as dharma suggested!

You should try and get a grip on reality. There is a lot more important things in this world than your hair! I would'nt call you superficial just concieted!

I love your hair, alison!!

Hmph...now I'm feeling guilty for actually having naturally straight, blonde hair...but mine's in desparate need of something too!!
